B-29 Open Cockpit Days - Pueblo
WHO: The Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum
WHAT: is sponsoring Open Cockpit Days with the World War II strategic
bomber the B-29 Superfortress. These Open Cockpit Days will be held
over two weekends in August.
WHERE: at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum located on the grounds
of the Pueblo Memorial Airport (PUB). The museum is located 6 miles
east of Pueblo Colorado on US Highway 96/US Highway 50 East.
WHEN: 2 August 10 AM to 4 PM, 3 August 1 PM to 4 PM, 9 August from 10
AM to 4 PM and 10 August from 1 PM to 4 PM.
COST: $7 for persons aged 10 years of age and over. Active duty
military admitted free with valid military ID. There is no additional
cost to sit in the cockpit of the aircraft.

Army To Search For WW II Ordnance

Inspectors from the Army Corps of Engineers are coming to Pratt to search for unexploded ordinance from World War II.
The search is scheduled for July 24 at the Pratt Industrial Airport that was the Pratt Army Airfield during World War II.

Great Bend B-29 Hangar Demolition
A backhoe belonging to Stone Sand Company is used to chew away at the east wall of the middle of the old World War II-era hangars at Great Bend Municipal Airport Wednesday morning. The building is being razed because it has deteriorated beyond repair.

A new Global Position System at the Pratt Industrial Airport will be so accurate, it will allow pilots to land within two or three meters of the center of the runway even in bad weather.

Funding for the $3 million Pratt Industrial Airport taxiway renovation is now available, sort of.
President Bush has finally signed the Omnibus Appropriations Bill that fully funds several entities including the Federal Aviation Administration. But at this time no authorization to spend those funds has been given, said Reid Bell, Pratt Industrial Airport manager.

A 'kid' from Oklahoma looks back on the tragedies of war
James Satterfield didn't think twice about enlisting in the Army when he heard about the Japanese attack against the Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor. In fact, in January 1942, the 19-year-old Oklahoma "kid," as he was called by his unit, hurriedly traveled to the recruitment office in Oklahoma City and enlisted as a member of the Army Air Corps.
