Between March and August of 1945, Joe Chovelak and 10 other members of the Nathan Crew in the 314th Wing of the U.S. Air Force's 29th Bomb Group flew 35 night fire bombing missions over Japan.

29th Bomb Group's Last Reunion

As Joe Chovelak stands in the World War II Memorial here, his bushy white eyebrows bristle at the notion that his beloved 29th Bomb Group is holding its last reunion.

"That is harsh. I mean, 'last reunion' is like going to a funeral," says Chovelak, 83, the tireless historian of the Army Air Forces that bombed Japan in 1945 and came here this weekend for the group's 13th and final get-together. "This is a farewell reunion."

Demolition of WW II B-29 Hangar

Pratt, Kan. -
The cost of demolition for a World War II airport hanger and a shop were set Thursday afternoon.

The low bid for both the shop hangar demolition were both submitted by Bryan Simpson. The bid for the hangar was $30,600 and the bid for the shop was $28,000. The bids were accepted during the regular monthly meeting of the Pratt Airport Authority Board of directors Thursday afternoon.

Lon Smith, the new director of the Kansas Aviation Museum, is fascinated by history.

So when he joined the Museum of World Treasures in Old Town as its sales and marketing director in 2005, it was a natural fit.

Now, he's enthused about his new role at the Kansas Aviation Museum, where he oversees all aspects of the museum, including the museum store, exhibits, archives, fundraising, marketing and advertising.

B-29 Open Cockpit Days - Pueblo

WHO: The Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum

WHAT: is sponsoring Open Cockpit Days with the World War II strategic
bomber the B-29 Superfortress. These Open Cockpit Days will be held
over two weekends in August.

WHERE: at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum located on the grounds
of the Pueblo Memorial Airport (PUB). The museum is located 6 miles
east of Pueblo Colorado on US Highway 96/US Highway 50 East.

WHEN: 2 August 10 AM to 4 PM, 3 August 1 PM to 4 PM, 9 August from 10
AM to 4 PM and 10 August from 1 PM to 4 PM.

COST: $7 for persons aged 10 years of age and over. Active duty
military admitted free with valid military ID. There is no additional
cost to sit in the cockpit of the aircraft.
